刮大白一般使用石膏粉，石膏粉凝固后质地较为坚硬，一般用于墙面的镶嵌、填补，通常将石膏粉用作为底层。等到石膏粉全部凝固后再刷一层腻子，腻子要比石膏更细腻，腻子刷上以后还要进行抛光，最终做到和常见的墙面一致。
